Lynn Stoppy
I am currently the elected Prosecuting Attorney in Johnson County, Missouri. I have held that office since January 2007 but joined the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office in April of 2005. I served as an assistant prosecutor in Cass County, Missouri beginning in 1999 and became the chief assistant prosecutor there in 2003. I have spent the better part of the last ten years protecting the rights and privileges of the citizens of the 17th Judicial Circuit.
As a prosecutor, the first and foremost duty is to follow the law. The legislators have composed the statutes and written the laws that govern us all. The duty of the Prosecuting Attorney is to look at the facts and the evidence in a matter and make the decision as to whether or not a law has been broken or somebody’s rights have been violated. I have been charged with making those decisions for nearly a decade. I have never been swayed by public opinion or succumbed to political pressure in making those decisions and most certainly will not as your Circuit Judge. I firmly believe that as a prosecutor or judge it is not about being popular or being liked but rather about doing your job.
A Judge is to follow the laws as they are written and I pledge to do that. I will not legislate from the bench nor will I become an activist to promote any private cause. My unconditional promise to the citizens of Cass County and the citizens of Johnson County, the citizens of the 17th Judicial Circuit, is to maintain impartiality and dispense the kind fair, even justice we all deserve.
